Update (2016-9-17)

Dear Support Team,

Thank you for your sacrificial giving, prayer, and encouragement!  We continue to praise God daily for His provisions through you.  Our financial support remains strong, and we are grateful.

Praises:

  • We started our 4th of nine units of language school this past week and all continues to go well as we are able to “little by little” interact with our neighbors.
  • God blessed us with a relaxing 2-night stay at a town (Jogjakarta) 2.5 hours south of us during our break.  We felt very loved and blessed by God to enjoy a bit of the country side (brief example in this video taken near our accommodations) after spending nearly all of our time in a very urban setting.
Requests:
  • Our TEAMmate (Jake Tibbe) has been suffering significant back pain this past week and missed the first 3 days of language school as a result. Each day seems to be a little bit better than the day before, but please pray for his continued healing.
  • We continue to be patient and try to be diligent in researching and evaluating vehicle options for us. Please pray that God would provide a suitable and quality vehicle for our family according to His timing.
  • This past Monday was a national holiday to celebrate Idul Adha.  We were invited to observe the sacrificing of cows (pictured below) and goats at the mosque near our home. This was a sobering experience and grieved our hearts even more for the many lost peoples here in Indonesia.

Update (2016-9-3)

Dear Support network,

Kami puji Tuhan untuk kalian semua (we thank God for all of you)… at least that’s what we think we are saying :).

Praises:

  • That we continue to make steady progress with language acquisition.  We complete our third month of language school this Tuesday 🙂
  • That Zac was able to give the devotional in Indonesian at the chapel service at our language school  last week and it went well, and without him suffering too much anxiety.
  • For technology, we are encouraged each week as we usually have opportunity to video call with our parents and sometimes friends, too.  These calls have been God’s grace to us in helping us not become too homesick.

Requests:

  • We currently have a single scooter (see below) for all of our transportation needs, but we are considering purchasing a vehicle. We were required to raise the funds for this vehicle and God has graciously provided, but please pray for us to have wisdom. If we buy a vehicle soon we can use it here in town and then pay to have it shipped to our final city of Manokwari next year – Or we can wait until we already live in Manokwari to purchase a vehicle but there is most likely a smaller selection of vehicles to choose from.
  • God is answering your prayers, but please continue to pray for us to learn the language and love these people more and more each day.

Grocery shopping trips for Leigh look different here.  A Go-Pro mounted to her helmet while she drives through the crazy traffic to the stores would give you an even better perspective.  But she continues to have a good attitude about all of the differences we experience here.
